Dr. Noble Kwame Asare is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Ghana. He received his PhD in Marine Biogeochemistry in 2007 from the University of Plymouth, England, his Masters degree in Aquatic Ecology in 2002 from the University of Bremen, Germany and his Bachelor’s in Zoology in 1999 from the University of Ghana, Legon. He is the former Head of the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences, UCC, a former board member of the National Committee on Aquaculture, and the Sectoral Liaison Officer for the Africa Centre of Excellence in Coastal Resilience (ACECoR), UCC. He is also presently the Centre Leader for an AU Centre of Excellence at the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences. He teaches several courses at both the undergraduate and graduate levels including physical oceanography, marine ecology, aquatic pollution, and brackishwater ecology. His current research work involves hydrographic studies of coastal ecosystems, coastal geomorphology, pollution and ecology of coastal water bodies, ecological and socio-economic impacts of pollution in marine systems and its significance to the global climate variabilities, aquatic nutrients flux and sediment transport, aquatic microbial ecology, and ecological studies of fish fauna in coastal marine environment. Dr. Asare has 13 peer-reviewed publications and 3 book chapters to his credit. He is presently supervising the research work of four (4) PhD, and five (5) MPhil students. He received two visiting scholar awards from the University of Cincinnati, USA in 2018 and the University of Rhode Island, USA in 2019, as well as a full Natural Environment Research Council scholarship from the Plymouth Marine Laboratory for his PhD research work in 2003. He has a passion for developing and moulding young academic minds for the 21st century as well as working towards the curtailment of environmental pollution through the efficient use of energy and advocacy. He is also currently working with the African Union-Interafrican Bureau for Animal Resources in a number of continent-wide initiatives for the fisheries and aquaculture sectors.
