I completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from the University of Ghana. My final year undergraduate project work looked into the ameliorating effect of Moringa oleifera on heat-induced stress in the skeletal muscle of rats. Subsequently, I completed a Master of Philosophy degree in Biochemistry, also at the University of Ghana. During my MPhil degree research, I determined the effects of selected medicinal plant extracts on mitochondrial function.

Currently, I am pursuing a PhD in Integrated Coastal Zone Management at the Africa Center of Excellence in Coastal Resilience (ACECoR) at the University of Cape Coast. Primarily, I am interested in tapping some of the marine plants for their biochemical and pharmaceutical application. Seaweeds are known to provide a number of products for human use. Unfortunately, some invasive seaweed species adversely affect the fisheries and tourism industries and consequently affect the livelihoods of people in coastal communities.

A research on the unexplored natural bioactive compounds in seaweeds will tout them as valuable marine plant resources. This will promote their utilization in the pharmaceutical and food industries. Harvesting of seaweeds will also be encouraged. Thus, the seaweeds will no longer be a nuisance to fishermen and the tourism industry. On the contrary, they will be a significant source of income and can support the livelihoods of people in coastal areas.
