Background:
The Africa Centre of Excellence in Coastal Resilience (ACECoR) Project at the Centre for Coastal Management (CCM), University of Cape Coast (UCC) is seeking to recruit a communications specialist to support and promote its communications activities. The successful candidate will be appointed to a full-time position at the Centre on contract basis beginning March 2022 for a period of two years. Qualified females are strongly encouraged to apply.
Job Description:
The successful candidate will be expected to focus on the following priorities:
- Assist in the planning, development, coordination and implementation of a communication strategy for the Centre
- Be responsible for content creation and regular and timely update of the Centre’s website and all social media platforms
- Create graphical illustrations and designs for the promotion of the Centre
- Write stories for publication on the Centre’s media platforms and report on all activities at the Centre
- Develop information, education and communications materials for the Centre
- Frequently write and deliver internal and external newsletters
- Plan and execute community outreach programs
- Any other specific areas of interventions as needed and assigned by the Centre.
Eligibility Criteria for Successful Application:
- Interested applicants must have a Master’s Degree in Communications or Journalism or Information Communications Technology (ICT) and/or other related areas of specialisation.
- The successful candidate must have strong technical skills in communication strategies including behaviour change communication with a drive to promote the research and project activities of the Centre.
- The successful candidate must have at least five years of professional experience in a similar position.
Essential Skills and Experience for Successful Application:
The successful candidate should have development communications skills and be ICT savvy, with a demonstrated track record of:
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
- Must be able to multitask and work well under pressure
- Events organisation – both in-person and virtual
- Community entry and engagements techniques,
- Website content management/editing,
- Development of information, education and communications materials, using professional audio-visual software
- Branding and publicity management on digital platforms
Additional Required Skills:
The successful candidate should be a team player, self-motivated, problem-solver, demonstrate initiative and leadership qualities, must be innovative and have a passion for excellence.
