The Center for Coastal Management (CCM)-ACECoR at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) welcomed a delegation from the University of Tsukuba, Japan, on 28 November.
The purpose of the visit was to explore a new partnership focused on coastal environmental education and student exchange opportunities. This collaboration aims to empower students to develop innovative solutions to the diverse environmental challenges facing society.

The delegation which was led Professor Samuel Bert Boadi-Kusi, Dean of the Office of International Relations, UCC, was received by the Acting Director of ACECoR, Prof. Precious Mattah, together with other researchers at the Center.

Prof. Mattah reaffirmed the Center’s commitment to training students from across the continent and conducting research that promotes sustainable coastal development. He also highlighted ACECoR’s extensive projects funded by international partners, particularly its work on coastal resilience and mangrove restoration along the West African coastline.

The Japanese team stated that the Interdisciplinary Field Study Program for Co-Creating a Harmonious Future would create learning opportunities for both Japanese and Ghanaian students.

According to them, the program will bring together students from diverse academic backgrounds to engage in online study and fieldwork. They also added that the collaboration would support students in analyzing social challenges in both Japan and Ghana.

The program, scheduled to begin in March 2026, will always train students for five years. It will include online coursework, fieldwork in both countries, post-fieldwork engagements, and career path seminars to guide students on graduate education and internship opportunities.
