The Centre for Coastal Management -ACECoR at the University of Cape Coast, Ghana has won two(2) competitive grants in collaboration with global partners under the New Frontiers in Research Fund (NFRF). The Centre therefore intends to apply part of its funding allocation to hire a Project Coordinator (1 person) to manage the two interrelated but different projects seeking to address coastal resilience in coastal Ghana on a day-to-day basis. 

The New Frontiers in Research Fund (NFRF): https://www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca/funding-financement/nfrf-fnfr/about-au_sujet-eng.aspx, launched in 2018 funds interdisciplinary, high-risk/high-reward, transformative research led by Canadian researchers working with international partners in the UK, Norway and other developing country partners including countries in Africa and Asia regions. 

The NFRF is designed to support world-leading innovation and enhance Canada’s competitiveness and expertise in the global, knowledge-based economy. This fund seeks to inspire innovative research projects that push boundaries into exciting new areas and that have the potential to deliver game-changing impacts within the marine environment and coastal communities. 

On account of the above, we are seeking ONE (1) experienced and talented individual, preferably a female expert with Masters’ or PhD degree qualification in one of the following fields: Integrated Coastal Zone Management, Migration Studies (including forced migration), Mangroves Ecology and Management, Fisheries Management, Maritime Policy, Ocean Governance, Maritime Affairs, Coastal Zone Management, Marine/Coastal Resources Management, Environmental Science, Blue Economy or related fields. 

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  1. day-to-day running of the projects in consultation with the Director 
  2. scheduling and participating in meetings with regional and global partners
  3. Coordinating with the Director, Grants Manager, M&E Officer, Centre Administrators and other duty bearers including the Data Hub Manager in the delivery of assignments/tasks involving other Centre or faculty members as well
  4. Developing and scheduling in-house meetings, and other office and field activities and engagements in-country, regionally and internationally 
  5. Work plan development and seeing to its implementation
  6. Any other duties as assigned by the Director.

Required Skills/experience:
The successful candidate must have at least five(5) years working experience in development, government or academia. Must be a team player, proven competencies working under minimal supervision, excellent report writing skills, computer use and acquired skills in relevant software applications, excellent writing and spoken English language skills (French not mandatory but could be an advantage), projects management experience and proposals writing skills. Soft skills including excellent communication, networking and negotiation skills will be key advantages.
