This course is designed to expose students to various marine resources and mineral deposits available. This course would equip students with the needed skills to carry out market analysis on marine mineral extraction as well as value chain analysis of marine minerals and energy.
Objectives
The main objective of the course is to provide students with the necessary skills to carry out value chain analysis in relation to marine minerals and renewable energy. Specifically, the course seeks to:
- examine the use of various marine resources and energy;
- equip students with the skills to analyse the market for marine resources; and
- enhance the skills of students in analysing various sources of renewable energies from the marine sector and its associated revenue.
Course Content
Topics that would be covered in this course include; marine mineral deposits, renewable energy pertaining to the marine environment, the role of market forces in marine mineral extraction and value chain analysis of marine minerals. The course would also introduce students to the global and regional distribution of marine minerals. Marine Mining, Policy Frameworks and best practices would be discussed. In addition, marine renewable energy, as well as salt and Chloro-Alkaline Industries, would be analysed.
