Dr. Kwadwo K. Mireku
Dr. Kwadwo Kesse Mireku is a PhD holder in Aquaculture and Fisheries from the Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (2018). He has an MPhil in Zoology (2012) and BSc degree in Biology (2005) from the University of Cape Coast. Dr. Mireku is a lecturer at the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences where he teaches several courses in Aquaculture and Fisheries Science both at the graduate and undergraduate levels. He also undertakes research and extension services in aquaculture and fisheries.
His area of expertise is fish genetics with special focus on the use of molecular techniques to characterize fish stock, fish diseases and also discriminate fish quality (integrity). He is a researcher on the AU-Safe Fish project which seeks to use bacteriophage to boost the immunity of cultured tilapia against common bacterial infections. He has also teamed up with other researchers in undertaking both mid-team and final term reviews of projects in fisheries in the country. Dr. Mireku has reviewed several manuscripts in Fisheries Science and Aquaculture.
He has worked as a Research Assistant and Teaching Associate with the Department of Fisheries & Aquatic Sciences since 2005, where he supervised and taught undergraduate students. He has a number of publications in international peer-reviewed journals. He believes that every student has hidden potentials which needs to be unearthed and hence his strong advocacy for mentoring.
