The British Council and the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) has announced the nomination of our PhD candidate, Ms. Olujumoke Adesola Ogunrayi, to the Commonwealth Futures Climate Research Cohort.

The Commonwealth Futures Climate Research Cohort programme was established through a partnership of the British Council and the ACU to support passionate climate and environment researchers to build leadership skills, translate research to action, and strengthen international partnerships for knowledge transfer in the lead-up to  26th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) .

Olujumoke was nominated along 26 other rising-star researchers to bring local knowledge to a global stage ahead of the COP26.Her nomination comes on the heels of her academic and professional expertise in the field of climate change management.

Ms. Ogunrayi is currently pursuing her PhD in Integrated Coastal Zone Management at the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences under a full scholarship award from the World Bank Africa Centre of Excellence in Coastal Resilience (ACECoR), University of Cape Coast.  Prior to her PhD, she worked as the Director of Climate Change Desk at the Ministry of Environment, Ondo State, Nigeria.

The Cohort brings together researchers from varying disciplines with in-depth knowledge of climate change impacts within the Commonwealth.

The Cohort of 26 researchers are based at 25 ACU member universities from 16 countries and will participate in expert-led workshops, design and deliver peer-led research-to-action projects, thereby bringing local knowledge to the global stage of the COP26 to be held in Glasglow in November 2021.

They are expected to build international collaborations and work with experts to influence issues related to climate and environment in their communities and beyond. We wish Ms. Olujumoke Adesola Ogunrayi the very best in this endeavour.
