MPhil Integrated Coastal Zone Management

2023/2024 Academic Year

I am an early-career researcher and Ocean Country Partnership Programme (OCPP) Scholar specializing in coastal ecosystem resilience, focusing on the impacts of anthropogenic stressors, particularly turbidity and plastic pollution, on marine and coastal biodiversity. My work integrates field ecology, laboratory experiments, and data analysis to address pressing challenges in Ghana’s coastal zones, aligning with global sustainability goals (SDG 14: Life Below Water). I have gained an enormous experience and contributed to combating challenges facing Ghana’s marine and coastal environment through research projects such as the One Ocean Hub (OOH) Project [Quantify plastic pollution hotspots in mangroves and estuaries (Gonçalves et al., 2025 Environ Sci Pollut Res)], and the HOTSPOT project which was a collaboration between the African Centre of Excellence in Coastal Resilience (ACECoR), UCC, and the Danish Technical University (DTU). With a strong interdisciplinary background in marine sciences, policy, and environmental management, I aim to bridge the gap between research, policy, and practical solutions for coastal sustainability in Africa and beyond. I welcome collaborations with researchers, policymakers, and communities to co-design strategies for resilient coastal ecosystems
