MPhil Blue Economy, Governance and Social Resilience

2023/2024 Academic Year

David Ekow Nketsiah is a passionate and dedicated Ghanaian researcher specializing in Blue Economy, Governance, and Social Resilience. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from the University of Cape Coast and is currently pursuing an MPhil in Blue Economy at the same institution. With a strong academic foundation and a commitment to community-based development, David’s work focuses on sustainable livelihood practices, environmental governance, and socio-economic resilience in coastal communities.
His current research explores the socio-economic impacts and vulnerabilities associated with shellfishing—particularly oyster harvesting—in Ghana. His work sheds light on gender dynamics, income volatility, nutritional benefits, and the policy gaps affecting shellfish-dependent households. Through rigorous fieldwork, regression analysis, and community engagement, David aims to influence evidence-based policymaking in support of Ghana’s sustainable development goals.
Beyond academia, David has contributed voluntarily to organizations like Banyani and Green Growth Africa, supporting environmental and climate-focused initiatives. He also completed a graduate internship with Emperiks Research Consult, where he honed his skills in research design, proposal writing, and data analysis.
With a growing passion for legal and policy frameworks in development, David is also preparing for a new academic challenge in law, demonstrating his multi-disciplinary interest in governance, rights, and justice in the context of sustainable resource management.
