MPhil Integrated Coastal Zone Management

2023/2024 Academic Year

Edna Amoako-Baidoo is a dedicated early-career researcher from Ghana, West Africa, currently pursuing a Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) in Integrated Coastal Zone Management at the University of Cape Coast. With a strong academic and professional interest in environmental sustainability, hydrogeochemistry, and isotope hydrology, and water resource management, Edna is passionate about generating research that informs practical, community-centered solutions.

Her current research focuses on assessing groundwater salinity in the Cape Coast Metropolis using hydrogeochemistry and stable isotope markers. The study aims to evaluate the spatial variation and underlying causes of salinity in groundwater sources, particularly in coastal aquifers. By combining hydrogeochemical analyses with stable isotope techniques, her research seeks to identify both natural and anthropogenic factors influencing groundwater quality. The findings are intended to support improved water resource management and inform sustainable adaptation strategies for coastal communities facing increasing salinization pressures due to climate change and land use practices.

Edna is committed to advancing sustainable development in coastal regions by integrating scientific research with policy and community action. With a growing focus on interdisciplinary approaches, she aims to contribute to evidence-based environmental governance, particularly in vulnerable coastal zones.
