Born and raised in Takoradi, Ghana, Felicia Takyi is a dedicated advocate for innovative remediation strategies for marine pollution mitigation and environmental sustainability. With a passion for protecting aquatic ecosystems, Felicia approaches real-world marine pollution problems with a creative and solution-inspired perspective. Felicia holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science from the University of Cape Coast, where she developed a solid foundation in environmental systems and pollution control.
After completing her Bachelor’s degree program, Felicia remained at the Department of Environmental Science as a teaching and research assistant, fulfilling the mandatory national service requirement for all recent graduates. During this period, she participated in various courses related to sustainability, which broadened her understanding of pollution across different ecosystem matrices. Motivated by her desire to influence policy and address environmental issues in Ghana, Felicia developed an interest in conducting research aimed at solving marine pollution problems, particularly due to her interest in the marine ecosystem.
Felicia Takyi is currently pursuing a Master of Philosophy in Environmental Science at the University of Cape Coast, with funding from the Ocean Country Partnership Programme (OCPP). Her research focuses on developing a remediation strategy for removing the toxic heavy metal mercury from water, using the Pra Estuary as a case study.
Motivated by the urgent need to combat marine pollution and protect sensitive coastal ecosystems, Felicia is dedicated to developing evidence-based solutions and sustainable marine management across the country. She intends to use knowledge from environmental science, sustainability studies, and pollution management to provide solutions to marine ecosystem restoration.
