Gifty Wiredu is from Ghana, West Africa. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Cape Coast Ghana and was awarded a Bachelor's degree in Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences in 2021.

During her undergraduate studies, she participated in the maiden Students Summer Exchange Program at the University of Rhode Island in the United States of America aimed at building her capacity in solving issues related to Fisheries and Coastal Zone Management. She is currently pursuing a Master of Philosophy in Integrated Coastal Zone Management at the University of Cape Coast under the World Bank Africa Center of Excellence in Coastal Resilience (ACECoR).

Her research interests include Aquatic Ecosystems, Marine Litter pollution, Climate Change and Resilience, and Macroinvertebrates. She is currently focused on the "Assessment of macroinvertebrate communities found attached to marine litter along the coast of Ghana."

Marine litter is a major global issue with far-reaching ecological, economic, and social consequences. In Ghana, increasing coastal population, inadequate waste management infrastructure, and widespread use of single-use plastics have exacerbated marine litter issues. Her research explores the sources, pathways, ecological impacts, and interactions of marine litter with macroinvertebrate communities along the Ghanaian coastline.

She is dedicated to improving her knowledge and skills in the field to contribute her quota to the conservation, management, and sustainable utilization of the Coast of West Africa and beyond.
