PhD Integrated Coastal Zone Management

2020/2021 Academic Year

I am Simon Masak, I hail from the North East Region of Ghana. I hold a bachelor's degree in Agriculture Technology with a major in Renewable Natural Resources Management from the University for Development Studies in Tamale, Ghana. I hold two masters in Environmental Science and International Environmental Studies from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana and Norwegian University of Life Sciences, Oslo, Norway respectively.

I previously worked as a Development Practitioner implementing projects such as the USAID Agriculture Development and Value Chain Enhancement Project (ADVANCE), Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs Trade and Development (DFATD) Resilient and Sustainable Livelihood Transformation program (RESULT) in the Northern regions. I have expertise in value chain linkages, business development, livelihood support, environmental management and governance, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) and advocacy for sustainable agriculture development.

I am currently a beneficiary of a World Bank scholarship as a PhD candidate in Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) at the University of Cape Coast Africa Centre of Excellence in Coastal Resilience (ACECoR), Cape Coast Ghana.

I have a strong interest in how to achieve sustainable coastal resource governance in Ghana. I, therefore, believe the program will give me further insights on these themes to improve my knowledge on global, national and regional coastal marine challenges and how to manage them sustainably. I hope to use the knowledge to improve policy formulation in Ghana and to further train the younger generation on sustainable coastal resource governance.
