Tchaka Pulumuka Kamanga is Malawian by nationality. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Irrigation Engineering from the University of Malawi. He practised irrigation engineering for 3 years then diversified into Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change Adaptation. Tchaka has worked as Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change Adaptation technical coordinator for Christian Aid, Self Help Africa and ActionAid in Malawi. In January 2021, Tchaka joined the University of Cape Coast to pursue a Master of Philosophy in Integrated Coastal Zone Management with financial support from the World Bank and the government of Ghana through the World Bank Africa Centres of Excellence for Coastal Resilience (ACECoR) Project. Tchaka´s research interests are in climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction and management. His immediate research undertaking at the University of Cape Coast will be to try to answer some fundamental questions like what are the impacts of climate change on ecological functions and services in the coastal areas. What are the key elements at risk? To what extent and why are the elements at risk susceptible to climate-induced disaster risk? What is the likely future risk as climate changes? Hypothetically, answers to these questions would contribute to current and future climate adaptation, an early warning system for the elements at risk, policy influence towards climate change mitigation strategies among others.
