The Centre for Coastal Management -ACECoR at the University of Cape Coast, Ghana has won two(2) competitive grants in collaboration with global partners under the New Frontiers in Research Fund (NFRF). The Centre therefore intends to apply part of its funding allocation to hire a Post-Doctoral Fellow (1 person) to support its scientific research and provide technical backstopping on the project. The New Frontiers in Research Fund (NFRF): https://www.sshrc-crsh.gc.ca/funding-financement/nfrf-fnfr/about-au_sujet-eng.aspx, launched in 2018 funds interdisciplinary, high-risk/high-reward, transformative research led by Canadian researchers working with international partners in the UK, Norway and other developing country partners including countries in Africa and Asia regions. 

The NFRF is designed to support world-leading innovation and enhance Canada’s competitiveness and expertise in the global, knowledge-based economy. This fund seeks to inspire innovative research projects that push boundaries into exciting new areas and that have the potential to deliver game-changing impacts within the marine environment and coastal communities. 

On account for the above, we are seeking for ONE (1) talented and hardworking early career PhD holder or a recently graduated PhD holder, preferably a female candidate with one of the following background qualifications: Integrated Coastal Zone Management, Migration Studies (including forced migration), Oceanography, Mangroves Ecology and Management, Fisheries Management, Maritime Policy, Ocean Governance, Maritime Affairs, Coastal Zone Management, Marine/Coastal Resources Management, Environmental Science, Blue Economy or related fields. 

Job/Position Description – The Fellow will work within the scope of the priority/thematic area of the NFRF research programme at the Centre and will be assigned the following responsibilities:

  1. Conduct research required in the assigned thematic area to the highest scientific and ethical standards 
  2. Liaise with research theme leads and staff of CCM to design and implement research instruments, protocols and other tools for laboratory and field data collection and analyses
  3. Coordinate the acquisition of ethical clearance for all research conducted and support the coordination of students’ research activities,
  4. Contribute to the development of grant-winning research proposals for the Centre
  5. Support the datahub outfit of Centre in collating and managing data from the project, and
  6. Perform any other assignment(s) as shall be assigned by the Director.
