Call for Applications: Professorial Fellow & Senior Fellow at ACECoR


 

Background

The Africa Centre of Excellence in Coastal Resilience (ACECoR) is looking for dedicated and self-motivated experts to support the Centre in specific technical and scientific capacities as outlined below. The successful candidates will be appointed as adjunct faculty members of the Centre beginning 1st March 2021. The positions are remunerated on adjunct/ part-time basis for a total period of two years (2021 – 2023), renewable subject to satisfactory performance and availability of funds.

  1. Professorial Fellow (1 position):

Interested applicants must be persons of Professorial status with distinguished academic careers and superior publication record. He/she must have over fifteen years (15) years professional practise in fisheries management, marine policy, coastal resources governance, marine sciences, environmental science, physics, chemistry, mathematics or geographical sciences. The successful candidate must be a holder of a PhD degree and must have proven evidence of involvement in scientific project activities and supervision of postgraduate students particularly at the PhD level. Successful candidates will be expected to:

  • Provide scientific inputs towards the recruitment, supervision and mentorship of doctoral and post-doctoral fellows of the Centre;
  • Provide technical backstopping in thematic research areas of the project by reviewing project documents, support proposal writing and making scientific inputs into projects activities including its reports to funders; 
  • Assist in scientific project development and
  • Any other specific areas of interventions as needed and assigned by the Centre.

Additional Required Soft Skills:

The successful candidate should be a team player, self-motivated, problem-solver, demonstrate initiative and leadership qualities, must be innovative and have a passion for excellence.

 

  1. Senior Fellow (1 position):

Interested applicants must have distinguished academic, research or extension careers with proven relevant professional experience and must hold a PhD Degree in maritime operations, maritime law, maritime security, environmental impact assessment or maritime policy.

The successful candidate must a legal background and proven evidence of successful legal practice and project management experience for a period of at least ten (10) years. He/she must be excellent at initiating and establishing partnerships, particularly academic-industry linkages with a drive to link the project to donor programs and the private sector. Successful candidates will be expected to focus on the following priorities:

  • Initiate and facilitate functional academic and industry partnerships for the Centre and its staff and postgraduate students to undertake internships in private or civil sector organizations; 
  • Contribute to mentorship and career development programs for students, linking industry and the Centre through special seminars and other creative initiatives;
  • Assist in the development of special initiatives including the creation of simulation labs with an entrepreneurial focus or incubation unit within the Centre to facilitate student career development objectives of the project; 
  • Assist in the development of projects bordering around maritime security in the Centre and;
  • Any other specific areas of interventions as needed and assigned by the Centre.
