Sod Cutting Ceremony held for the ACECoR Multipurpose Building

Following the establishment of the Centre for Coastal Management as the Africa Centre of Excellence for Coastal resilience in 2019, a $1.8M grant was allocated by the World Bank for putting up a multipurpose building for the Centre.

After 3 years of planning and strategizing, ACECoR has finally held a sod-cutting ceremony led by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast (UCC) to construct the multipurpose building.

The event was held on Tuesday, 19th April 2022 at the building site behind the UCC enterprises building, close to the West Gate, and began with an opening prayer from Reverend Isaac Baafi, followed by the opening remarks from the Vice-Chancellor who expressed his delight about finally getting to physically begin the building project.

The Director of CCM-ACECoR in stating the purpose of the building indicated that the project was going to be in phases which include ultramodern lecture rooms for seamless teaching and learning, as well as offices for the team. He used the opportunity to introduce both the contractor and consultant who gave their remarks.

Antarctic Limited led by Mr. Kwame Dankwa, is the company contracted to construct the building with consultancy by FAS Consult. Thankfully, both companies have worked together on several projects in the past and are familiar with each other. This gives hope that their good working relationship is going to translate into a project of high quality and completion promptly.

Sod was finally cut and the ground broken by the Vice-Chancellor. Amid cheering and clapping, he went on to give his closing remarks urging all who were present to be supervisors of the ACECoR Multipurpose Building Project.
