Stakeholder Consultation: Mangroves as Protection from Flooding and Erosion

Mangroves are important forest covers of coastal areas that are described to provide essential habitats for many species. Due to their interaction with both land and water (the sea), mangroves provide many other ecological services and have been identified to stabilize shorelines, preventing erosion and protecting the land as well the people who live there from waves and storms. The World Bank’s West African Coastal Areas Management Programme (WACA) in collaboration with the Africa Centre of Excellence in Coastal Resilience (ACECoR), University of Cape Coast (UCC), will convene a multi-stakeholder consultation series to engage experts working on the management of mangroves under the theme "Mangroves as Protection from Flooding and Erosion." This technical workshop will bring together stakeholders from government, academia and research institutions, and civil society to better understand the roles mangroves can play in enhancing coastal resilience in Ghana and identify potential sites for nature-based risk management initiatives.

This virtual meeting is open to all invited experts who will receive the meeting link upon verification and confirmation by ACECoR. Interested individuals and organizations should contact the ACECOR team via email at acecor@ucc.edu.gh.
