In a grand ceremony held at the Fisheries Commission Forecourt in Ridge-Accra, Professor Denis Aheto, the Director of the Centre for Coastal Management at the University of Cape Coast, was honored with a prestigious award in recognition of his dedication to sustainable fishing practices. The event (Responsible Fishing Awards), organized by the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development in collaboration with the Fisheries Commission and supported by the Ghana Fisheries Recovery Activity (GFRA), celebrated the exceptional contributions of individuals and communities to responsible fishing.

The award ceremony which took place on October 25, 2024, saw attendance from key stakeholders, policymakers, and prominent figures in the fishing industry, all gathered to acknowledge those championing sustainable practices essential to Ghana's coastal ecosystem. 

Professor Aheto's leadership and unwavering commitment to responsible fishing have set a benchmark for conservation efforts and sustainable development in Ghana. The recognition bestowed upon him underscores the importance of academia and research in guiding sustainable practices within local communities. This honour marks a significant milestone in Professor Aheto's career and reaffirms his invaluable role in safeguarding Ghana's marine resources for future generations.
