The Governing Council of the University of Cape Coast has appointed Professor Denis Worlanyo Aheto as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of the University. This decision was made at a Council meeting held on 24th September 2025, following which an official statement was released by the Registrar and Secretary to Council. This appointment marks an important moment in the university’s leadership journey, symbolizing both continuity and renewal within the institution’s governance structure.
Professor Aheto, who has been serving as the Pro Vice-Chancellor since January 2025, brings to the office a wealth of academic experience, visionary leadership, and an outstanding record of service to the University of Cape Coast and the wider academic community. His elevation to the position of Acting Vice-Chancellor reflects the confidence reposed in him by the University Council to steer the affairs of the institution with integrity, innovation, and excellence.
As an accomplished scholar, Professor Aheto has dedicated much of his career to advancing coastal and marine research in Ghana and beyond. He is renowned for his leadership as the Director of the Centre for Coastal Management – Africa Centre of Excellence in Coastal Resilience (CCM-ACECoR), which is a world-class research and capacity-building hub that has positioned the University of Cape Coast as a continental leader in blue economy and coastal resilience studies signifying strides made towards fostering and achieving SDG 14. Under his direction, CCM-ACECoR has implemented impactful research projects, built strong partnerships with international institutions, and contributed significantly to policy formulation in coastal management.
Beyond his research achievements, Professor Aheto is widely respected for his commitment to mentoring young academics and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration, with his academic vision emphasizing the integration of research, innovation, and sustainable development.
