Mrs. Sika Abrokwah, an assistant research fellow and grants manager at the Centre for Coastal Management, Africa Centre of Excellence in Coastal Resileince (CCM, ACECoR), has begun a one-month fellowship programme with the Centre for Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (Cefas) in the United Kingdom.
This fellowship is part of ACECoR’s staff capacity development programme funded by the World Bank. For her fellowship, she is also receiving support from the Ocean Country Partnership Programme (OCPP) which is a UK Government-led programme under the Blue Planet Fund. Through the OCPP, Cefas, in partnership with Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC) and Marine Management Organisation (MMO), provides technical assistance to support countries, including Ghana, in tackling marine pollution, support sustainable seafood practices, and establish designated, well-managed and enforced MPAs.
Within the month she will engage in knowledge exchange activities with marine litter experts at Cefas and receive training on automated monitoring tools for marine litter detection as well as microplastic analysis techniques. The skills and knowledge she will acquire from this training will improve and enrich her marine litter research work and strengthen her capacity to develop and implement other projects within this area.
