Harriet Kyerewaah Ampoful is a passionate environmental science researcher from Ghana with a growing focus on aquatic pollution, ecosystem health, and sustainable resource management. She is currently pursuing a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Environmental Science at the University of Cape Coast (UCC) as a scholar under the Ocean Country Partnership Programme (OCPP).
Her research, titled "Assessment of Microplastic Pollution in Water and Sediments of the Fosu Lagoon and Muni-Pomadze Lagoon in the Central Region, Ghana", focuses on evaluating the extent, types, and distribution of microplastics in vital coastal ecosystems. Her work aims to contribute to a better understanding of land–ocean pollution linkages and inform sustainable interventions in the region.
Harriet holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Laboratory Technology, also from the University of Cape Coast. She completed her national service at the Environmental Quality Laboratory within the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering – UCC, gaining practical experience in water quality testing and laboratory procedures. This experience deepened her interest in environmental pollution, particularly in the interface between human activity and the degradation of coastal ecosystems.
Driven by a commitment to improving the health and sustainability of Ghana’s aquatic environments, Harriet aims to generate evidence-based insights that inform local and national policies on plastic waste management and coastal resilience. She aspires to be at the forefront of research and advocacy that supports sustainable environmental governance across Ghana and the wider West African sub-region.
