This course deals with international developments in integrated coastal zone management with focus on protection of the marine environment from land and sea-based activities. Students will be introduced to a broad range of international treaties in the context of the global marine and coastal environment including the law of the sea, Convention for the prevention of pollution of ships, Ramsar Convention, and the UN Global Programme of Action for the Protection of the Marine environment from Land-based Activities, among others. The course will expose the students to international developments to do with the marine conventions as well as discuss their role and effectiveness in integrated coastal management. Extensive use of the Internet will be required for this course.
