Mr. Ken Kinney is a Ghanaian plant scientist and environmental policy expert with skills in community-based natural resource management and rich experience in climate change adaptation and mitigation measures in river basins and the coastal zones in Ghana. He has been involved in piloting the establishment of river buffer zone for water security in the Dayi river basin; a sub-basin of Volta River with Water Resources Commission and also leading nature conservation and climate projects, security of land tenure within the framework of Right Based Approaches to development. Ken introduced CREMA (community resource management areas) to the Weto landscape in the Volta region since 2013 with support of Both ENDS and Netherlands Committee of Internal Union for the Conservation of Nature) (IUCN-NL) as a community institution for nature conservation.  Currently, Ken is working with four coastal districts in the Volta Delta in Ghana on building coastal resilience through restoration and livelihoods activities in collaboration with UN-Habitat. As an expert in Analog forestry, he is mobilizing and teaching communities to restore degraded mangrove areas in the Volta delta in collaboration with Wildlife Division of the Forestry Commission in Ghana where is also leading turtle conservation and community-based tourism. Mr. Kinney has over 22+ years working experience in policy and practice in the natural resources sector in Ghana of which 12 years is on coastal resources management including biodiversity conservation, mangroves restoration and fisheries development. Ken is a member of IUCN) and coordinates Delta Alliance Ghana-Wing, He shares his rich experience at national and international workshops and conferences, empowerment of communities especially women groups and student practicum. Mr. Kinney is the Founder and the Executive Director of The Development Institute, a Ghanaian NGO. He holds two advance degrees; M. Phil in Crop Science and Master of Policy Studies (Environment major) from the University of Ghana, Legon and Southern Regional Institute for Policy Studies of Universities (Fort Hare and Zimbabwe) respectively.
