BSc, Ports and Shipping Administration, Regional Maritime University

Dr. Sagoe obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Ports and Shipping Administration from the Regional Maritime University in 2009. She further obtained a Master of Arts degree in Governance and Sustainable Development from the University of Cape Coast in 2011, and a Master of Science Degree in Marine Spatial Planning on an Erasmus Mundus Scholarship from three Universities in Europe: University of Venice, University of Seville and University of Azores, in 2015. In 2020, she obtained a PhD in Integrated Coastal Zone Management from the University of Cape Coast. She is currently a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the Africa Center of Excellence in Coastal Resilience at the Centre for Coastal Management, University of Cape Coast. Dr Sagoe’s research in coastal management has contributed to operationalizing the establishment of Marine Protected Areas in the Western Region of Ghana. She has assessed coastal ecosystems in two communities within the Greater Cape Three Points area, to identify critical areas for the potential creation of Marine Protected Area (MPA).  She recommended a multi-use MPA to be instituted in the area, with the Nyan estuary and Enhuli lagoon at Princess Town accorded “General Use” and “Sanctuary” status respectively, and the rocky bay at Cape Three Points also accorded “Sanctuary” status. She is passionate about promoting coastal and marine habitats conservation and / or restoration through advancing Ocean Literacy in the line of her work. As one of the pioneer professionals trained in Marine Spatial Planning in Europe through the Erasmus Mundus Masters Programme, she is actively involved in propagating Marine Spatial Planning as a tool for sustainable ocean management in Ghana. She has contributed to popularizing Marine Spatial Planning in Ghana through a number of sensitization activities she has been engaged in. Dr. Jonah’s research currently as a Post-Doctoral Fellow is focused on developing ecosystem management protocols for effective conservation of critical coastal wetlands in Ghana.
