OCCASIONAL LECTURE

Ghana’s sandy beaches are severely threatened by sea erosion. Many coastal communities are losing their beaches to rampant climate-induced wave actions. In response, the government of Ghana mainly employs hard engineering structures such as groins, jetties among others to stem the erosion.

Literature however, shows that there are soft measure and less hard engineering approaches to resolving coastal degradations.

The Africa Center of Excellence in Coastal Resilience (ACECoR) of the University of Cape Coast through the World Bank was established to build the capacity of young Africans as well as conduct research activities aimed at reducing coastal degradation. As part of its occasional lecture series, the Centre has invited Drs. Ing. Rien van Zetten a renounced coastal engineer based in the Netherlands to deliver an online lecture on the:
