The Africa Centre of Excellence in Coastal Resilience (ACECoR) is proud to announce that its Director, Professor Denis Worlanyo Aheto, has been appointed as the Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast (UCC). This appointment is a testament to his exceptional leadership, groundbreaking achievements, and dedication to advancing coastal resilience and sustainable development in Africa.

Under Professor Aheto's transformational leadership, ACECoR has made remarkable strides in addressing the challenges facing coastal communities across the continent. Since its inception, ACECoR has gained a reputation as World Bank- Africa Center of Excellence, tackling pressing issues such as climate change, ecosystem degradation, and sustainable resource management.

Key Achievements of ACECoR Under Professor Aheto’s Leadership

Capacity Building: Over 300 postgraduate students from across Africa have been trained in cutting-edge solutions for coastal resilience, equipping them with skills to lead sustainable development initiatives.

Research and Innovation: Groundbreaking research conducted by ACECoR has informed policy and provided actionable solutions to mitigate the impact of coastal vulnerabilities and has contributed to The University of Cape Coast's high ranking in SDG 14 (Life Below Water).

Global Partnerships: Strategic collaborations with international organizations and academic institutions have enhanced ACECoR's ability to deliver impactful research and innovative solutions.

Policy Influence: Professor Aheto has championed evidence-based policymaking, influencing national and regional strategies for climate adaptation and sustainable coastal management.


His visionary leadership has not only positioned ACECoR as a key player in addressing Africa’s coastal challenges but has also enhanced the University of Cape Coast's global standing as a hub for innovation and excellence.
