Academic Staff Vacancies

The Africa Centre of Excellence in Coastal Resilience (ACECoR) Project at the Centre for Coastal management of the University of Cape Coast intends to apply part of its funding allocation to employ the services of three (3) experienced academic/research staff to fill the following key positions at the Centre. The positions will last for a total period of three years (2020-2022) but renewable subject to satisfactory performance. The appointments will be on a part-time basis involving a total workload of four (4) hours per week at the Centre. Females are strongly encouraged to apply.

Positions:

1. Professorial Fellows (2 positions)

2. Senior Research Fellow (1 position)

 Professorial Fellows:

Interested applicants must be persons of Professorial status with distinguished academic careers and superior publication record. He/she must have over fifteen years (15) years professional practise in fisheries management and coastal resources governance, marine sciences, environmental science, physics, chemistry, mathematics or geographical sciences. Successful candidates must holder of a PhD degree and must have proven evidence of involvement in scientific project activities and supervision of postgraduate students particularly at the PhD level. Successful candidates will be expected to:

  1. Provide scientific inputs towards the recruitment, supervision and mentorship of doctoral and post-doctoral fellows of the Centre;
  2. Provide technical backstopping in thematic research areas of the project by reviewing project documents, support proposal writing and making scientific inputs into projects activities including its reports to funders; and
  3. Any other specific areas of interventions as needed and assigned by the Centre.

Senior Research Fellow:

Interested applicants must have distinguished academic, research or extension careers with proven records of professional experience in community outreach, scientific communication, agricultural extension, business development, entrepreneurship, environmental science or coastal resources management. The successful candidate must be a holder of at least an MPhil Degree with proven competence in project management for a period of at least ten (10) years. He/she must have an excellent record of initiating and establishing partnerships particularly academic-industry linkages with a drive to link the project to donor programs and the private sector. Successful candidates will be expected to focus on the following priorities:

  1. Initiate and establish functional academic and industry partnerships for the Centre, instituting MoUs for the benefit of its postgraduate students to undertake internships in private or civil sector organizations; 
  2. Establish a mentorship and career development program for students linking industry and the Centre through special seminars and other creative initiatives;
  3. Assist in the development of simulation labs with an entrepreneurial focus or incubation unit within the Centre to facilitate student career development objectives of the project; and;
  4. Any other specific areas of interventions as needed and assigned by the Centre.

  1. Outstanding writing, analytical, communication skills and willingness to bring ideas to the table
  2. Able to work in a challenging environment
  3. A team player, self- motivated, problem-solver and should demonstrate initiative and leadership qualities; and
  4. Must be innovative and have a passion for excellence.
